About
The newly-opened second course at Chhun On instantly ranks amongst the country's best
The Palm Course at Chhun On Golf Resort is the second championship layout at the fast-rising Cambodian venue, joining the Lakes Course which opened in January 2024. Designed by Curley-Wagner Golf Design, the Palm Course continues the resort’s bold, large-scale design vision while offering a distinct playing character. It's known for it's genuinely lightning-fast greens, which average 12 on the stimp meter.
Built on a former floodplain north of Phnom Penh, both courses required substantial earthmoving. Massive lakes — some more than 10 metres deep — were excavated to create fill material that elevates the playing corridors and mitigates flooding risk. The result is a modern, sculpted landscape defined by expansive water bodies, sweeping sandy areas and elevated fairways.
Stretching to approximately 7,300 yards from the back tees, the Palm Course has been designed with tournament golf in mind. Architect Brian Curley describes the layout as evoking a “TPC Sawgrass-style” aesthetic, with bold grass-faced bunkering, dramatic water features and striking visual contrasts between sand, turf and native landforms.
While water plays a strategic role, the routing avoids overwhelming players with forced carries off every tee. Many holes offer generous landing areas, creating a sense of width and openness as the course weaves through treelined corridors and sculpted bahia grass landforms. Thousands of palm trees — the course’s signature feature — are spread throughout, reinforcing its identity and tropical atmosphere.
Fairways are grassed with Zeon Zoysia, chosen for its durability and resilience, while greens feature Lynkz Zoysia, a modern surface known for smoothness and consistency in warm climates. The strength of Zeon allows golf carts to drive directly to players’ balls rather than remaining strictly on paths — an uncommon feature in the region that enhances pace of play and overall enjoyment.
The course orientation also reflects careful environmental consideration. With Cambodia’s bright, dominant skies, many holes are aligned north–south to reduce glare and improve playability throughout the day.
Together with the Lakes Course, the Palm Course positions Chhun On Golf Resort as one of the most ambitious new golf destinations in Southeast Asia — a modern, tournament-ready layout combining bold shaping, tropical aesthetics and player-friendly design.
